1. Objectives

The Health Science Research Resources Bank (hereinafter abbreviated as HSRRB) is a public research resources bank aimed to contribute to the promotion of research and development in health science fields such as medical and pharmaceutical sciences. The Bank supplies cell lines, DNA clones, animal embryos, and human tissues, to researchers in industrial, governmental, and academic institutions.

2. Operation

HSRRB is operated by the Japan Health Sciences Foundation (hereinafter abbreviated as JHSF), and advised by the Research Resources Supply Examination Committee set up in JHSF and composed of academic, governmental, and private experts.

3. Services

The Bank supplies research resources such as cells and genes and handles related problems with the support and cooperation of the national institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

4. Conditions for the supply

Persons to be served
Researchers for life sciences in industrial, governmental, and academic organizations both at home and abroad

Limitation of usage
Resources should be used only for basic or fundamental research, safety evaluations, etc., but not for military purposes and direct profit-making activities except for testing businesses. Supplied research resources should not be redistributed to a third party.

Reporting the research results
You are requested to send to HSRRB a copy of your publication (paper or presentation abstract) describing the results obtained from the use of the supplied resources.

Ethical code
Supplied resources should be handled according to the ethical principles[e.g., Ethical Guidelines on Analytical Studies of the Human Genome and Genes. Revised December 28, 2004, The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry].

5. Fees

All academic, governmental, and private researchers are charged for the service received. Service fees are specified elsewhere.
